Dermoban kills the bacteria that cause skin infections by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins necessary for the survival of bacteria. Thus, it prevents the skin infection from spreading.
Reported side effects include burning, stinging, pain, itching, rash, nausea, erythema, dry skin, tenderness, swelling, contact dermatitis, and increased exudate.
Dermoban 2% is an antibiotic medicine used to treat certain skin infections such as impetigo (red sores), recurring boils, and others.
Mupirocin is a naturally occurring antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly binding to bacterial isoleucyl transfer-RNA synthetase. This unique mode of action prevents cross-resistance with other antimicrobial agents. It is effective against a wide range of bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), other staphylococci, streptococci, and certain gram-negative pathogens like Escherichia coli and Haemophilus influenzae.
A small amount of Dermoban ointment should be applied to the affected area three times daily for up to 10 days. The safety and effectiveness of Mupirocin ointment have been established for patients aged 2 months to 16 years.
No drug interactions have been identified with Dermoban ointment.
Reproduction studies in animals have shown no evidence of harm to the fetus. However, there is limited clinical experience with its use during pregnancy, so it should only be used when the potential benefits outweigh the possible risks. It is unknown whether Mupirocin is excreted in human milk, so caution should be exercised when administered to nursing women.
Dermoban ointment is not for ophthalmic or intranasal use. Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. Care should be taken to avoid contact with the eyes, especially when used on the face. It is not suitable for use in conjunction with cannulae or at the site of central venous cannulation. In case of sensitization or severe local irritation, usage should be discontinued and alternative therapy should be instituted. Mixing Dermoban ointment with other preparations can reduce its antibacterial activity and stability.
Dermoban ointment should be kept below 25°C, and protected from light and moisture. It should not be frozen and must be kept out of the reach of children.
